Tenure Working Committee (TWC) Handbook
The TWC Handbook provides probationers and TWC members with answers to commonly-asked questions. It is a living document updated by the TRC. Email the TRC chair/co-chairs with any questions not addressed by the TWC Handbook.
Items Related to Class Observations
Observations will include 2-3
observations per quarter, including at least one observation per
year by each team member. To facilitate proper evaluation, an
attempt should be made to ensure that all classes are observed
by team members.
For all class observations, TWC members can use any
observation tool/method of their choice. For examples of
observation tools, refer to the Teaching Effectiveness course,
EdTech’s PLAID website,
or tools used by your department.
In the quarterly report, submit only a summary of the
observation (not the tools/rubrics themselves). The summary
should focus on the sub-criteria of the Faculty Effectiveness
tenure criteria. See the
Class Observations section of the
TWC Handbook for more
information on observations.
When reviewing
Canvas courses, the TWC observer should be added to the course
for a specific amount of time and then removed. The probationer
and observer should decide what needs to be reviewed and when
the observer will do the review. Then:
- the probationer adds the observer at that time using the Observer role in Canvas,
- the observer completes their review and then notifies the probationer to remove them,
-
and the probationer removes the observer from Canvas.
